Review, edit, time and style your captions in one place. Sections below match the in-app tour so you can jump from any step into the matching article.
Video preview
The preview panel plays your media with the current captions burned in. Use it to check that captions read cleanly against the picture, that line breaks fall in sensible places, and that the timing tracks the speech.
- Space bar plays and pauses.
- Click any segment in the list to jump the preview to its start.
- The preview reflects the style you have chosen - see Styles below.
Caption segments
Your transcript is split into segments - each one is a single caption row with its own start and end time. The segment list is the spine of the editor: pick a segment to edit its text, retime it, or compare it with a saved revision.
- Use the up and down arrows to move between segments without leaving the keyboard.
- A red edge marks a segment with a timing or length warning.
- Drag to reorder is intentionally disabled - broadcast captions must stay in spoken order.
Edit caption text
Click into a segment or press Enter to start editing. Your changes save automatically when you move away. The autosave indicator at the top of the editor tells you when the last save landed.
- Cmd or Ctrl + Z undoes within a segment; the editor keeps a per-segment history.
- Use the AI assist menu for Quick Fix, Welsh Grammar Pass and Broadcast-Ready cleanup.
- Capsiynau follows broadcast line-length conventions - segments above 84 characters are flagged.
Timing controls
Each segment has a start and end time, measured to the millisecond. Adjust them by typing directly, by nudging with the keyboard, or by using Fix Timing to align segments to the underlying audio.
- Shift + arrow keys nudge a time by 0.1 seconds.
- Fix Timing in the Captions menu re-aligns the whole file against the audio.
- Overlapping segments are highlighted in amber so two captions never appear at once.
Language options
Add a second language track to caption the same media in Welsh and English in parallel. The Add Language menu creates a new track that mirrors the timing of the original, ready for human review.
- Welsh dialect variants - north, south, broadcast, formal - are separate tracks, not translations.
- Use Script & Glossary to lock specific terms so they survive translation passes.
Caption style
Style controls how captions look on the burned-in preview and on broadcast exports. The five style presets cover the common delivery formats - pick the one your broadcaster requires.
- Change Style in the Captions menu swaps the preset for the whole file.
- Style only affects appearance - the underlying text and timing are unchanged.
Save and revisions
Capsiynau saves automatically as you work. Open the revision history panel to compare or roll back to an earlier saved version of the file.
- Revisions are stamped with the editor name and timestamp.
- Rolling back creates a new revision rather than overwriting - nothing is lost.
- Use the Export menu when you are ready to produce an SRT, VTT or broadcast-ready file.
